Item Details.
Rare composition triple amulet of bright glazed turquoise faience, finely carved with the head of a ram (representing the god Khnum), a frontal standing figure of the god Bes or Pataikos, and a falcon’s body (representing the god Horus) on integral base. Small hole for suspension. Exquisite details.
For parallel see: Andrews, C. Amulets of Ancient Egypt, Trustees of the British Museum, 1994, p.37 (Hybrid figures, picture 33/c.).

Like most Egyptian amulets, janiform pieces were worn to pass on the apotropaic properties of the gods depicted to their wearers. In this form, the creator-force (Khnum) is given protective agency (Bes/Pataikos) and victorious, divine authority (Horus). In other words: Khnum provides life, Bes/Pataikos protects that life and Horus ensures its triumph and continuity. The owner could expect protection for a child or pregnant woman, ensuring successful growth and survival and to be guarded against chaos, illness, or malevolent forces.

Provenance: Ex. private collection, acquired prior to 2000.
