Item Details.

Trefoil lip, applied handle, decorated in red and white with an offering scene showing the figure of a standing Ariadne, her hair pulled to the top in a bun, wearing pleated himation, holding the grapes and wreath (symbols of Dionysus) towards a standing naked male figure (probably Dionysus) offering her a cista bearing fruits with his left hand, a cloak thrown over his arm. Foliage and flowers between the pair, the scene enclosed in a red frame, ovolo decoration atop. Exquisite.

Provenance:Previously property of Mr. G. K., Canada, acquired prior to 1970.

Attribution verified by accredited archaeologist, specialist in Ancient Mediterranean Ceramics and Numismatics.
