Item Details.

Finely decorated in black slip with Greek warriors fighting between Athena and Hermes, intricate pattern of foliage and rays on the shoulder. Attributed to the Class of Athens 581.

Class of Athens 581 is the name given to a group of black-figure lekythoi probably all from one workshop made in the early fifth century B.C. The criterion for inclusion in the group is shape, make and patternwork. The drawing varies (British Museum, 2024).
