Item Details.
Superb quality and patina oxyrynchus fish on integral stand, Hathor’s horns and sun disk, a Uraeus in front. Sitting in front of him a kneeling votary. Extremely fine engraved details.
The grey-coloured fish (Marymus kannume) was regarded as a form of the goddess Hathor. It figures in the later version of the Osiris legend as the creature which swallowed and preserved the phallus of the dismembered king.

Provenance: ex. British collection, acquired in Europe prior to 1990. ex. London auction.
