Item Details.
Carved on one side in high relief with the facing head of Hathor with cow’s ears, “Hathor-Hair-Do” formed by flanking Uraei on either side of her face and the crown with the Eye of Horus inside two volute encasements. Two wide loops at the top for suspension.
Hathor was the matron and embodiment of what were considered the pleasures of life 5,000 years ago - and which, for many, remain so even today: joy, love, romance, fecundity, dance, music, alcohol and perfume. A deity of women, she ruled anything having to do with the female gender.
Hathor's hair is dressed in so characteristic a fashion that the style now bears her name: archaeologists have dubbed it the "Hathor hair-do."

Provenance: From an old British private collection formed between 1975 and 1990.
