Item Details.
In baboon form, modelled in the round wearing a lunar disc and seated on a integral semi-circular base with attachment lug. Hieroglyphic inscription around the base.

Egyptians considered the baboon to be a symbol of knowledge and wisdom and they deified him under the name of THOTH. They believed him to be the inventor of writing and scribe of the gods.

Provenance: Gifted by Herbert Parsons (1870-1940) to his grandson, James Gibson (1926-2013). Inherited by the vendor and her brother, from their grandfather James Gibson.
