Exquisitely decorated in Six’s technique with stick figures racing, boxing, wrestling and hunting a boar, possibly depicting scenes from the Olympic games.
Apulian Xenon ware is a South Italian pottery style characterised by matte red or white painted decoration applied over a glossy black-glazed surface. This often utilises the Six’s technique, a method involving added-colour, incised figures that mimics red-figure painting, named after Dutch scholar Jan Six.
