Decorated in black slip with a horse rider following a standing figure of a monkey looking back, rays on the shoulder.

This lekythos with chimney mouth presents formal and decorative characteristics attributable to the Haimon Group, a circle of Athenian black-figure painters whose individual names remain unknown. The designation, proposed by Beazley following Haspels (ABL), derives from the close stylistic affinity with the Haimon Painter. The group was remarkably prolific, specialising primarily in the decoration of lekythoi, most commonly on a white ground, and was active concurrently with the flourishing of the leading red-figure painters. A substantial corpus of vases has been attributed to them on stylistic grounds. The iconographic type, pertaining to the Dionysiac sphere as indicated by the presence of a satyr, ranks among the most frequently attested subjects within the group's repertoire.
