Item Details.
Neat, tight weave, squat in profile with wide mouth, tinted cross to the underside.
Baskets of this size were often used to hold fruits, seeds and other dry foodstuffs. Made from tight coils or split reed, palm leaves, or straw, baskets of all sizes were used by all sectors of society from peasants to pharaohs. 116 were found in the annex of Tutankhamun’s tomb.

Provenance: Ex Bretagne Encheres, Hotel des Ventes de Rennes, France, 2005-2006. Property of a French collector.
