Item Details.
Of smooth burnished grey, bulbous body beautifully decorated with a relief frieze of nine seated winged sphinxes and an egg pattern on the shoulder. Disk rim, flaring foot and applied strap handles. Exquisite.
Known for its smooth black or dark grey clay and glossy finish, Etruscan Bucchero is a distinctive type of pottery which was widely found across Etruria and central Italy from the 7th to 5th centuries B.C.

Provenance: Private collection, UK, since the late 1990s.
