Item Details.
Double leaf inscribed on the two sides in black ink in Arabic Nakshi script and in red in Persian language. Gold and silver frames.
This fine pages are from a very fine Mughal Koran, with prayers, copied from Mulla Fathullah’s Tafsir commentary. It was scribed in Northern India and dated AH 1195/AD 1780. The script is Naskhi, with interlinear Persian translation throughout in red nasta’liq. There are illuminated florets between verses, extensive commentaries in nasta’liq written diagonally in outer margins. A fine example of later Mughal work dating from the American Revolution period.
