Item Details.
Of fine blue green, highlighted with black painted dots at the rim and with the king’s cartouche and a line of text to the right. The royal name is so faded that only one sign is clear: mery. This clue, however, is helpful, for it allows the royal owner to be identified as the possessor of the name element mery-Amun “beloved [of Amun]. The vessel, therefore, can be identified with either Setnakhte (1196-1194 B.C. ), Ramses III (1194-1163 B.C. ), Ramses IV (1163-1156 B.C. ) or Ramses VI (1143-1136 B.C. ). The line of text is also unclear, but the first sign is the first element in the name of Osiris, so the text probably read “Beloved of Osiris”. Comes with signed translation and dating by Dr. Timothy Kendall Former Associate Curator of Egyptian and Near - Eastern Art, Museum of Fine Arts , Boston, MA.

Provenance:British private collection, acquired on the London art market in 2002.
