The Etna Group was active around Mt. Aetna and is distinguished by not employing added white for the flesh colour of the women portrayed.
Attribution:was pioneered in the twentieth century by Sir John Davidson Beazley. Through close examination of details of style, it is possible to recognise pieces by the same artists. For ease of reference Beazley and other scholars gave various nicknames to the anonymous painters whom they identified, some painters are named from the find-spot or current location of their work or a key vase, such as the Lipari, Etna or Berlin Painters.

Provenance: Nigel Park collection, Glasgow(1938-2013), The collection was formed between 1970 and 2000.
Acquired at a London art gallery, October 1975.
